05 February 2010
Pupils from Kirkcaldy High School have proved they are world leaders in creative digital media.
The pupils have been involved in a unique project, ‘Digital Creator’ which was run in partnership with Adam Smith College and the British Computer Society (BCS) – The Chartered Institute for IT. The project was piloted at the school in 2009 and was such a great success that it is now being rolled out across the world including, Ireland, The Netherlands, South Africa and the US.

Around 200 pupils took part in the project which involved the creation and sharing of digital audio (such as podcasts), the capture and manipulation of digital images and filmmaking. The pupils’ work was of such a high standard that it has impressed experts in the field of film and radio who work with BCS..

Peter Leavy, Digital Creator Manager from BCS, attended the event and said, “The pupils have been fantastic and the work they produced during the project was outstanding. They have learnt a great deal, improved their individual IT skills and had lots of fun too.
Our sharing site, www.eurocreator.com, has also been translated into 11 different languages and we now plan to roll Digital Creator out to countries throughout Europe, and the rest of the world – always remembering of course that it all started here in Kirkcaldy with the pupils in Kirkcaldy High School.”
