Sarah Finlay, has another year at Adam Smith College before moving on to study fine art at University. Delighted with her award but unable to attend the presentation Sarah said, "This award will enable me to buy materials and equipment to help put together my portfolio." Shona Hutchison will use her award to buy materials for her current course and hopes to go on to fulfil her dream of studying graphics at Dundee. Mature student Dougie Kinnear combines student life with taking care of his teenage son. He is particularly interested in jewellery making and plans to use his scholarship to buy equipment to improve his work and allow him to complete his HND. All three students come from Glenrothes.

Kirkcaldy students Louise Heggie, Billy McLeary and Katie Morrison received sums varying from £100 to £200. Louise is currently working on her portfolio with the aim of studying interior design at Dundee. Billy gave up a full-time job as a tattoo artist to come to college. Said Billy, "Receiving the Vettriano Scholarship means a lot to me. It will help with the purchase of the equipment I need to further my ambition of going to University." Katie is another student building up a portfolio of work with the aim of securing a place at Dundee. Melissa McGarva from Kinghorn aiming for a place at Dundee to study portrait painting, will use her award to buy equipment essential to making good progress on her course.

Christine Robson, Adam Smith Foundation Manager said: "These scholarships offer the students the opportunity to make the most of their time at college by helping them to purchase quality materials which might otherwise be out of their reach.

"The recognition of hardworking, committed students in this practical manner is invaluable both in helping them achieve their goals and in boosting their confidence. Jack is a former student of the College and can no doubt appreciate the demands of study. We are delighted and honoured to receive the support of such a well-known artist."

Scholarships are awarded to Adam Smith College students every year through the Adam Smith Foundation, the Charitable Trust of the College.
