Five students from Adam Smith College were chosen to represent Scotland last month in the British Colleges National Championships – the largest annual sporting event in Britain that sees over 3,000 student athletes taking part in 13 sports.
Kayleigh Deane (16) from Lochgelly, and Kirsty McIntyre (17) from Kirkcaldy, who represented Scotland in the women's football event.
Kelly To (18, left) and Lee White (18), both from Glenrothes, represented Scotland at the British Colleges National Championships.
This was the first time that Scotland has taken teams to the British Colleges National Championships and follows on from the inaugural Scotland’s Colleges National Championships, which was hosted by Adam Smith College earlier this year after the successful founding of Scotland’s Colleges Sport by Adam Smith Lecturer, James Shields.
James took the four Adam Smith College representatives in men’s and women’s football to Loughborough to compete with fellow team members from Aberdeen, Cardonald, Kilmarnock and Motherwell colleges, along with one other student who had been chosen to be the Scotland football refereeing representative.
James commented, “It was fantastic for the students to represent both Adam Smith College and Scotland in such a huge sporting event and to compete against some of the best up-and-coming athletes in the country.
”All the students involved in the event thoroughly enjoyed it and appreciated the opportunity to compete in such a great competition.”
The Scotland women’s football team also got a little something extra to take away with them – the Fairplay Award, which was given to them for exhibiting such great sportsmanship during their time in Loughborough and for which they were awarded sporting equipment to take home with them.
