Adam Smith College’s Robot Roadshows and Young Engineer Clubs have been given a substantial boost this week thanks to Raytheon Systems.

Jim Trail Chief Operating Officer from Raytheon Systems, Glenrothes visited the College’s Young Engineers Club in Kirkcaldy to present a cheque for £10,000 to Kevin Nunn, Executive Director for Engineering, Construction and Science.
This is the third year that Raytheon have supported the project which enables primary school children to find out more about robotics and build their own robot cars and devices.
College staff visit Fife Primary Schools throughout the year and introduce pupils to engineering by giving them the chance to build their own robots from specially designed robotic packs. Techno Games Events are held annually where schools get together to build robots and compete against each other in activities such as football, sumo wrestling and an assault course.
Kevin Nunn, Executive Director for Engineering Construction and Science said,
“We are delighted that Raytheon are able to support this fantastic project for yet another year - their generous support will allow us to continue to visit Primary Schools throughout the Kingdom and many more children will benefit from being introduced to engineering, and robotics in particular.
Raytheon’s support has also enabled us to run several new Young Engineers Clubs in various primary schools including Southwood Primary and St. Paul’s Primary in Glenrothes.”
Clubs also run at the Cosmos Centre in St Andrews, Woodmill High School Community use in Dunfermline as well as the Kirkcaldy Club at Mitchelston Industrial Estate.
Jim Trail said, “It was great to visit the Young Engineers Club – numbers have certainly grown since my last visit and it was fantastic to see so many young people get excited about robotics.
“Raytheon is delighted to continue to support these initiatives which are really important if we are to attract young people into the world of engineering. Having world class engineers and technologists in our business is vital to our continued success and we are certain that initiatives such as these help to inspire our young people to become great engineers and technologists of the future.”
