Team Building Battle for Adam Smith Students
16 December 2009
A group of students from Adam Smith College recently battled the freezing cold to complete a day of teambuilding and brain training exercises.
The group of SVQ IT Users students who attended the Barry Buddon Army Training Camp.
SVQ IT Users students from the Levenmouth Campus attended the Barry Buddon Army Training Camp in Barry, Carnoustie, and were tasked with problem solving exercises; transporting a large bin and team mates across an imaginary river with the use of planks of wood and barrels, removing a large dustbin from the top of a traffic cone using only a rope, and transferring tyres from one location to another whilst keeping them in numerical sequence.
All of the exercises were held outdoors on one of the coldest days there has been this year, however the army instructors ensured students stayed warm by ordering them run to the fence and back when they got an exercise wrong!
The finale of the day was the Army Assault Course which was very challenging, with most students completing it successfully, although a little wet from falling in the water!
Student Mary Cameron, who took part, said, “I really had an amazing time doing the course. It was challenging but great fun at the same time. There were things I didn't think I could do but I gave it my best shot and would definitely do it again!”
Other students also commented that the day was great fun and taught them to be more patient, listen more and work better as a team, as well as making them feel more confident.
Sandra Paterson, the course tutor, said, “It was a really successful day with everyone enjoying the challenges and supporting each other over the many obstacles. The army instructors were very persuasive, encouraging students to participate, even on the high walk obstacle which was very challenging.”
