27 July 2010
Anstruther’s picturesque harbour will soon be the scene for the 2010 Anstruther Muster (Wednesday 28th July to Sunday 1st August) – a sailing extravaganza to do with all things nautical! This year’s Muster is set to be even bigger and better than last year with a host of attractions for all the family.

Anstruther Sailing Club is organising this year’s colourful event through a unique partnership with Fife Council, Adam Smith College and Velux.
Through Fife Council’s Celebrating Fife initiative the Anstruther Sailing Club has been awarded funds to support the event to provide even more attractions than before ensuring that it fully celebrates and showcases Fife’s unique environment, cultural identity and lifestyle activities.
The Anstruther Muster has been running since 1997 and this year, over 100 boats are expected to sail into the harbour from all over Scotland and from as far a field as Bristol. The 2010 Muster is certain to be bigger and better than ever before, thanks to event management support from students studying with Adam Smith College.
In addition to the normal Muster activities of entertainment and the East of Scotland Boat Jumble, there will be performances on Wednesday and Thursday evenings before the main weekend event. Fife Fiddler’s Rally will play in the marquee on the pier on Wednesday evening and the following night Grace Black, a popular local jazz singer, will perform with her band to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Both events start at 7.30pm with tickets priced at £5 being available on the door.
Councillor Brian Goodall, Chair of the Housing and Communities Committee is looking forward to this year’s event and said: “We are thrilled to be supporting this year’s Anstruther Muster the biggest sailing event to be held on the East Coast of Scotland. As well as being a great community event the Muster attracts boats and visitors from throughout Scotland and beyond to our shores, some from as far south as Bristol. The event has been growing in numbers and reputation since it began over 12 years ago and has become an extremely popular event in the Sailing calendar.”
Cairns Birrell, Commodore at Anstruther Sailing Club, said: “In addition to the traditional sailing activities, Anstruther’s Harbour area will be a hive of activity with stalls, entertainment and fun for all the family. On the East Pier there will be a range of specialist traders with boat and sailing equipment. The Anstruther Muster has turned into an important date not just for the sailing fraternity but also for the community and for Anstruther’s many summer visitors. A number of local businesses and community groups support the day in a variety of ways and we are always grateful for everyone’s involvement.”
