NC Early Education and Childcare

Through this NC group award you will combine theory and practical work experience in an early years setting. You will gain an understanding of the key issues involved in caring for young children, including their needs and how to provide for the development and education of children from birth onwards.

Work Experience

Students undertake a work placement within a Nursery or Primary School setting. This will enable participants to gain direct experience of working with children. In this way, theory is linked to practice. (Patterns of placement may vary between campuses).

All students will be asked to give consent for a criminal records check to be carried out by Disclosure Scotland. No placement can be organised until a satisfactory report has been received.

Duration and Attendance

One Year Full-time

Entry Requirements

One of the following:

  • 5 Standard Grades; 2 at Grade 2 or above including English, and 3 at Grade 4 or above
  • Pre-access to Nursing/Introduction to Childcare/Introduction to Care with passes in English Intermediate 2 or Higher
  • Alternative equivalent qualifications will be considered on an individual basis

Note: This area of work demands applicants who are well motivated and mature in attitude. Good interpersonal and communication skills, excellent timekeeping and attendance are also essential.
